Yesterday and today I've been listening to some podcasts in the car on the way to/from work. I enjoy listening to triathlon-based podcasts and there are a few specific one's that I've listened to multiple times. I get a lot of good information out of them that helps me focus on my workouts. While I will never train with the volume that the professional's train at, I can still apply the same intensity and focus to my workouts. The main take home message has been to not lose sight of what the goals of the workout are. Don't get caught up in a group workout and miss your workout targets. It's easy to miss your targets and then you got nothing from your workout.
I've been thinking about my goals for the season (the one's Jen identified and what I hope to achieve). Jen has my schedule on Training Peaks where I get daily emails of my workouts, plus I can logon and record my workout, workout feedback and any other metrics I want. Jen gets an alert when I've logged something and can see any comments I might have made. She can adjust my workouts based on my feedback to her. This is crucial to keeping me recovered and my injury rate down. This last season's injury had nothing to do with my schedule, but more to do with a change in running shoes I had made. Now that the problem has been remedied, it's time to soldier on.
As a PT, when I evaluate my patients and write up a plan of care, I have to create a problem list. This will consist of things that I found wrong or what contributes to a patients problem. It could be a strength issue, range of motion, control of motion, etc. From there I setup short term and long term goals that the patient should achieve as they progress through rehab. So I was thinking on my ride home tonight how that applies to anything. Identify what is wrong, and then setup a plan/goals on how/when the problem will be resolved. In Training Peaks, you can setup weekly goals and then measure up at the end of the week. So over the next week I will write down some weekly/monthly/quarterly goals and share them with Jen and get them into Training Peaks. I think this will help me really focus on my workouts and pay close attention to the details in there. That is what's going to get me to the next level of racing.

Great to see how your using the goal features in TrainingPeaks. That can make all the difference in the world!
